Ssangyong Cars

SsangYong Business Group is located in Korea and was founded in 1939. The word “SsangYong is the Korean term for “Twin Dragons” and was taken from an old legend involving two selfless dragons awaiting the opportunity to go to heaven. The SsangYong Business Group is a successful conglomerate focusing on cement, financial, information and leisure services, as well as oil and paper. The company has been a producer and exporter of motor cars for over 50 years, starting with commercial and special purpose vehicles.

Their passenger vehicle products have been primarily focused around 4x4 vehicles that are highly capable in an off-road environment and offer owners the very best in technology. SsangYong bought a motor group called the Ha Dong Hwan Motor Company in 1986. This company had been involved in the production of 4x4 vehicles since the mid 1950’s. The 4WD SUV Korando was created by SsangYong in 1988 and this was the first SUV created in Korea and was the first of many SsangYong 4x4 SUVs to follow.

Mercedes Benz joined forces with SsangYong in 1991 to create light commercial diesel and petrol engines and other parts for 4x4 SUVs. In 1993, the well known SsangYong Musso was produced, followed in 1997 by a smaller version named the SsangYong Korando.

A modern and stylishly refined car was created in 2002, which offered car owners excellence in off road capabilities. This car was called the SsangYong Rexton. Then, in 2008, SsangYong created three more 4x4 vehicles: the Kyron, a full-size 4x4 called the Rexton and a spacious vehicle called the Rodiu.
