Guidelines for Buying Your New Car
Before you go and visit car dealerships to look for a new car, it is best to rather have a good think about what kind of car and model you want and the options you would have with your new car. Do some research online and find out as much as you can about the car you wish to buy, also the prices offered by different online car dealerships. If you do all this groundwork about the car you wish to buy, it is unlikely that a car salesperson will be able to pressure you into a quick decision on the spot when you are at the car dealership. If you arrive at the car dealership with all the different prices for the new car that you have found during your research online, your chances of getting a good deal on a car are increased.
Basic New Car Buying Guidelines:
- Look for new car prices in car guide magazines that have car price listings and also on the internet. You might even find information on the car dealer costs for the new car model, plus options, that you are interested in buying.
- Do comparison car shopping between the car prices you see on ads and the prices you see at new car dealerships for the new car model that you want.
- You must be prepared to negotiate for the car that you want because car dealers might be open to bargaining 10% to 20% of their profit margin. Dealers may be willing to bargain on their profit margin often between 10 and 20 per cent. It is a buyer’s market and be prepared to leave the new car dealership if they don’t want to negotiate on your price. Work out the difference between the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) and the price that the new car dealer is charging and this should be the correct price to pay for the new car.
- If you don’t find what you are looking for on the new dealer’s showroom floor, then think about ordering your car. You might have to wait longer than you want to for the new car, but at least then you can get all the options that you want, while a new car on the new car showroom floor might not have the options that you want on the car. However it’s good to remember that salespeople do need to sell their current stock as quickly as possible and this might make it possible to negotiate a very good deal with them on the new car. But beware of letting the car dealer ‘buy’ the car you want from another car dealer, this can seriously backfire on you because you must always be very careful about where the car is coming from. See it first before you commit.
- Always give your car insurance agent a call to see if the premiums for the new car you want to buy are in fact affordable for you.
