Tips on Buying Used Cars

Tips on Buying Used Cars

Buying a car is supposed to be a joyous occasion but it seems that most people end up regretting buying their first or second car, therefore making this an important decision. They either buy a car that consumes too much fuel and ends up drowning them in serious debt, or people end up buying a car that seizes every month. Unlucky car buyers fall into car scams and end up losing thousands of Rands.

Here are some tips on buying car from Imperial Select that will help you make an informed decision:

  • Car models: Be careful about the model of the car you have chosen to buy. Remember that you don’t have to be a mechanic to find damage done to the car. Make sure that you check the car inside, outside and below. Make sure that you check the registration papers too before you choose to buy the used car.

  • Inquire about the reason for the sale: Most private owners will sell the used car when they have a second, better model or when the car has been in an accident. This means that the car might be pretty good or really bad. As a private owner, you are buying the car "as-is." That means you cannot object if there are problems with the car later on. it is safer to shop at a new or used car dealership.

  • Check the car: Make sure that you have checked the car over completely and then ask the used car owner for another appointment. If you like the car you can then bring an independent car mechanic with you to check out the car on the second day. Make sure that you have checked the entire car inside, outside and all over. This assures you that the used car has run very little and is a good investment

  • Car dealers: Second hand car dealers are more likely to sell you good cars but they might try to cheat you in the form of processing fees and warranties.

  • Seek out Professional advice: If the mechanic is satisfied with the car, then do take the car around for a test drive. Make sure that the engine starts properly and that there are no vibrations and sounds. Apply the brakes and then start and stop the car. Check the speedometer and the mileage recorder to make sure that the used car is working properly.
