Used KIA For Sale: Should You Choose Manual Or Automatic?

Used KIA For Sale: Should You Choose Manual Or Automatic?

If you've decided it's time to trade in your current vehicle and have your eye on a really enticing used KIA for sale, you will be faced with various things to consider. What's your budget? What are your lifestyle needs and which model will be best suited to accommodate it? Do you have colour preferences or want a particular year's model? In addition to all these factors, you may also be undecided about whether going for a manual or automatic transmission model is best. If you're still on the fence or don't really know what the differences are between them, beyond the obvious, read on.

Manual transmission cars are still very popular and in use in South Africa, unlike in some other countries where they have begun being phased out by automatic cars. Because of this, the option between the two is readily available for most cars and what you buy mostly depends on your own personal preferences and needs. You may find that an automatic vehicle is more convenient or better suits your needs, especially if you're stuck in rush hour traffic almost daily.

Manual Transmission: An Overview

Pros:

  • Cost: Firstly, manual transmission models almost always come with a cheaper price tag than their automatic counterparts. Whether you buy one brand new and straight off the ship or go for a pre-owned model of the same kind, you're going to pay less for a manual version.
  • Driver Control: A manual transmission vehicle is almost entirely reliant on the driver's actions, meaning you have full control over when, how and how much the car responds as you drive. If you prefer knowing exactly how your car will perform and react to your specific instructions, manual is the better option.
  • Service and Parts: Manual transmission engines are less expensive to service and the cost of parts is less than that of automatic versions. This is simply because the structure of the system isn't as deeply interconnected as that of an automatic vehicle.

Cons:

  • Resale Value: As we mentioned earlier, manual transmission cars cost less than automatic versions, and this remains the case when you decide to sell or trade in your car.
  • Driver Fatigue: If you're constantly out in heavy traffic and have to spend every day in rush hour gridlocks to work and back, driving a manual car can be exhausting. While this may be manageable for many people, if you're elderly or suffer from chronic medical conditions that affect your physical stamina, this can become a very taxing part of your day.
  • Constant Precision: A manual car is mechanically built to respond to the driver, which means that if you fail to react properly, the car will fail to respond properly. This needs to be considered if you're living in a hilly area where there are many occasions that you'll have to start and drive off on a steep incline or have to be very alert to navigate twists and turns on the road. If you're prone to anxiety or a very new driver, these can be quite daunting to deal with. You also need to consider that, depending on your driving style, you may be wearing out parts like your gearbox, brakes and other components. This can happen by shifting gear at the wrong time, forcing your car to respond suddenly when an even transmission would have been better, or simply accidentally shifting into reverse or a much lower gear when you're moving at a much higher speed, resulting in damage.

Automatic Transmission: An Overview

Pros:

  • Easier Driving: An automatic car doesn't have a manual clutch and basically only requires you to push the petrol or the brakes as you drive. This is ideal for people who aren't physically capable of effortlessly dealing with constant gear changes and shifts while driving. It also makes spending time in traffic much less straining, as you won't need to constantly shift between first and second gear as you sit in a snail-paced line.
  • Fuel Economy: Overall, the fuel usage of manual and automatic cars are basically on par these days. Automatic cars have been technically enhanced over the years and provide you with a more even driving experience, which translates to not wasting fuel unnecessarily. This may not seem like a big deal, but if you consider that most manual car drivers don’' drive efficiently by changing gears at the best time or pushing their cars to speed up too fast or in the wrong gear, it all adds up. So yes, you may end up paying more initially for the car, but over the years you'll save quite a lot on petrol, as compared to driving a manual car.

Cons:

  • Initial Cost: Yes, you're going to pay more for an automatic vehicle, whether it's new or used. In spite of all the potential benefits, this may mean that an automatic falls outside of your available budget unless you resort to buying a much older model that is affordable to you.
  • Service and Parts: Automatic vehicles were designed to essentially take all the heavy thinking and effort out of driving. This means that it's a far more complex system overall, with almost every part having an electronic configuration and impacting the entire car's function. The transmission also has significantly more moving parts, to take over that task from the driver. That means if something goes wrong with it, much more work has to go into diagnostics and repairs, as the vehicle is programmed and needs to be carefully calibrated. For this reason, your service costs, repair costs and mechanical parts are going to cost you more than that of a manual car.
  • Monotony: If you're going to go with an automatic vehicle, be ready to accept that driving will be a lot less interactive and therefore quite boring and arduous. If you only drive for the sake of getting from A to B with as little effort as possible, great. If you're someone who loves the actual experience of driving and seeing what your car can do under certain conditions, however, an automatic will have you bored to tears and feeling frustrated over the lack of control in no time.

We hope this information will be useful to you as you search for that ideal used KIA for sale. Remember to check in on our website often as we stock various KIA models and have made every effort to prepare each vehicle to be in great condition before we put them up for sale.

How Your Demo Car Choice Can Reflect Human Rights Values

How Your Demo Car Choice Can Reflect Human Rights Values

Every purchasing decision we make these days impacts the world around us. Switching to ethically sourced clothing, natural cleaning products, or a plant-based diet are a few ways to incorporate sustainability into your daily life.

Another way to do this is to consider shopping for high-quality, low-cost demo cars. Picking the right car can highlight who you are as a contributing member of society, with an emphasis on what you value.

In honour of Human Rights Day, we explore just how your choice of car gives you better insight into the impact you have on the world.

Buying Right

Although the automotive industry is extremely regulated for best practices in labour laws, you can still ensure that you buy a car that endorses fairness and safety. This is about their workforce, ensuring that the working conditions are secure and that labourers are equitably treated with dignity.

Prioritising the Planet

Buying new is not always an option for many of us, especially when it comes to car shopping. With the sudden increase in electric and hybrid variants on the market, it can leave you feeling guilty about buying a model or two behind.

However, choosing to purchase a pre-owned or demo car is sustainable in itself. You are lessening your impact in your lifetime with lower emissions. Additionally, you are also negating the costs and resources associated with a brand-new vehicle.

Uplifting the Community

When it comes to car shopping, the companies you choose to support can help uplift your community. Although it seems like an unlikely relationship, it is possible. For example, we have several international automakers who have invested in South Africa by bringing their manufacturing plants to the country.

This results in local labour being employed, increasing the diversity and inclusion of all South Africans in this business sector.

While it can seem strange to consider how your demo car reflects your values, it speaks volumes in today’s world. Make your mark with Motus Select. Explore our range of high-end, economical, and sustainable demo cars. Change the world, one mile at a time. Book your test drive today.

Budget-Friendly Tips To Keep Your Kia Sonet Squeaky Clean

Budget-Friendly Tips To Keep Your Kia Sonet Squeaky Clean

We hear that congratulations are in order! You’ve just signed the papers for your newly purchased Kia Sonet for sale from us and are ready to hit the town. It’s been a long but fulfilling journey, and you cannot wait to make some moves in your pre-owned entry-level SUV.

But before you do, you have likely wondered how to maintain that showroom shine and "new car" smell on a budget. Below, we share our tips to keep Kia Sonet in tip-top condition.

Check Out Cleaning Supplies

Keeping your car clean requires a little more effort than a quick hose-down once in a while. You need a cleaning kit that has all your essentials. However, there’s no need to rush out and buy the most expensive products just yet.

You will need a microfiber cloth, soft-bristled brushes, upholstery, glass, and leather cleaner. You likely already have items like a vacuum cleaner, a duster, and even a spray bottle. All in all, you can get a clean car without any pricey detailing services.

Do A Deep Clean

Most make the mistake of just vacuuming over interiors and calling it a day. However, dirt and debris find their way into every nook and cranny.

Take the time to wash out your floor mats, use vacuum attachments to get to those hard-to-reach places, and ensure you disinfect high-touch traffic areas to maintain the hygiene levels in your vehicle. These tasks can take time but can be done less regularly than your general cleaning.

Clear Out Odours

Unfortunately, odours can make their way into your car without much hassle. It can lead to an unpleasant driving experience, and more often than not, those gimmicky deodorisers rarely help.

One effective way to maintain good smells in your car is to use bicarbonate of soda, which is relatively inexpensive. Simply dust over your seats and into cupholders and door panel compartments. Leave it overnight, and then vacuum it up for a fresh and clean-smelling car.

So before you head off on the road trip you have been so eagerly planning, it’s time to set up a new cleaning routine – one that is affordable, simple and practical. Our handy tip will ensure you have a well-maintained car for years to come. And because this shows outstanding care and effort, you are more likely to get a higher resale value later.

Keep your recently bought pre-owned vehicle from Motus Select in pristine condition with our helpful tips. If you are still in the market for a Kia Sonet for sale, we can assist. Visit us online or in-store today and find your next sparkling ride.

What to Expect with Renault’s Revisions This Year

What to Expect with Renault’s Revisions This Year

French car manufacturer Renault has announced some interesting updates to a number of their iconic cars. Bound for African shores later this year, we can expect some exciting changes to the Renault Kiger for sale, Kwid, and Triber.

The roll-out is based in India, with no mechanical upgrades anticipated. So that leaves us curious about what we can expect later this year.

Quick As Ever: The Renault Kwid

The Renault Kwid underwent updates years ago to meet exterior demands for the South American market. One area of improvement is the growing demand for connectivity and convenience for drivers and passengers alike.

With the Life model in South Africa serving as the counterpart to the RXL, it has been improved with the addition of an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, international customers can expect an update in the form of a 5-speed automated transmission option added to the RXL range.

While there’s no direct change to the Renault Kwid offering in South Africa, we anticipate the brand may be reworking this SUV-inspired hatchback for future updates.

Revving Up: The Renault Kiger and the Renault Triber

The Renault Kiger was brought to South African shores as another option for the highly dependable Sandero. There are a few updates to the range, primarily automated climate control, electric mirrors, and cruise control on various models. These minor changes are set to make their way to the South African market in the second quarter of 2024.

On the other hand, the Renault Triber is also expected to streamline some features in its Indian variants. Black interiors, electric mirrors, and wireless charging functionality are all convenient additions to the SUV. There have also been air conditioning vents fitted into the second and third rows of cars, as well as a reverse camera for enhanced driving support.

We are excited to see what Renault is bringing to the table this year. Improved offerings mean better value and variety—something that we specialise in at Motus Select.

Discover what’s in store for the Renault Kiger for sale and more today with Motus Select. Find yours now and experience masterful French refinement firsthand.

4 Second-Hand Cars To Launch Your Transportation Business

The effects of a global pandemic in 2020, plus a downward-moving economy, have made meeting ends meet just that much harder. But we South Africans are a resourceful bunch and have taken this in our stride. From smart shopping for second-hand cars, wiser investments, and a change in careers to adding a side hustle to your schedule, we’re making it work.

That said, you may be interested in joining the booming transportation business. People are always on the move, going from one place to another. There are plenty of opportunities to capitalise on, particularly school and university runs.

With this in mind, here are our top picks of second-hand cars to help you kickstart your people-moving business.

  1. The Hyundai Staria

South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has become synonymous with affordable value in South Africa. Their cars are made to last, are extremely reliable, and are even more capable.

The Hyundai Staria represents this well with its four variants, fitted with a 2.2L diesel engine and automated transmission gearboxes. It reaches a respectable 8.7 L/100 km fuel consumption rate. Customers can choose between the 9- and 11-seater options, designed to give you optimal space for every journey.

Its unique and futuristic-like exteriors complement the convenient and comfortable interiors. There is a panoramic sunroof, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for your passengers on their daily commutes. Additionally, there are innovative features such as an 8-inch touchscreen display, a Bose speaker system, and wireless charging functionality for hassle-free driving.

  1. The Volkswagen Caravelle

Volkswagen is a brand renowned for automotive excellence, with a sterling lineup of cars, including the Golf, Jetta, and Scirocco. Consumers can expect the same quality and performance from the equally iconic VW Caravelle.

The latest range is only available in one variant, but that’s more than enough because of how feature-packed and dynamic this minibus is. It has a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with a 7-speed DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) transmission. On the combined fuel cycle, you can expect a fuel consumption rate of 8.2 L/100 km.

The seven-seater minibus has two swivel seats in the second row and three bench seats in the third for easy passenger placement. But where the Carvelle truly excels is with its driver support suite, which is packed with features for better handling and responsiveness on the road. These include its fatigue detection alert, crosswind alert, hill descent, trailer control, and a helpful tyre pressure monitoring system.

  1. The Toyota Quantum

The Toyota Quantum is an exceptional people carrier, despite people’s misconceptions about the minibus. It is indeed a safe, efficient, and economical car that you can rely on for daily secure passage to and from school or university.

It comes in eight variants in the latest generation range. All are fitted with a 2.8-litre diesel engine and 6-speed manual and automated transmission options. These RWD (rear-wheel-drive) vehicles have an 8.7 L/100 km fuel economy rate. Additionally, you can shop according to your needs with 6- and 9-seater options.

The range includes features such as the standard scuff plate, overhead console, and auto air conditioner. To increase the driver’s handling on the road, Toyota has equipped the Quantum with additions such as ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), BA (Brake Assist), traction control, and a lane-keeping system, all dependent on the model of your choice.

It also has to be noted that the latest generation comes with more upmarket, refined exteriors and finishes that, in our opinion, have upgraded the perception of the humble Quantum.

  1. The Ford Tourneo

Ford continues to produce cars that have customer appeal across every segment. Their range consists of high-quality hatchbacks, bakkies, and minivans. The Ford Tourneo is no exception, with variants fitted with engines ranging from 2.0 to 2.2L.

There are also two trim lines: the Ambiente and Sport models. These are available in 6-speed manual and automated transmission options that achieve a notable average of 6.5 litres per 100 km of fuel consumption.

Passengers can enjoy plenty of legroom as the Tourneo is designed to carry eight passengers comfortably. Furthermore, there are removable seats to create more luggage space if needed. There are also convenient USB ports throughout to elevate the experience for students who need to charge their devices for school or university purposes.

Further to this, several safety systems enhance every drive, from start to finish. These include blind spot monitoring, trailer sway control, and adaptive load control.

Not only are all these models highly efficient, but they are also affordable and can help you start your business without a big buy-in. Each of these brands and models offers customers prioritised safety, reliability, and comfort. Whatever your needs, our range offers exceptional solutions to get you moving.

Under-The-Radar Road Trip-Ready Cars For Sale

Under-The-Radar Road Trip-Ready Cars For Sale

The first quarter of the year has been full-steam ahead. But with a busy few weeks behind us, it’s time to treat ourselves to a break. There’s no better way to do this than with quick weekends away in road-trip-ready cars for sale in Gauteng from Motus Select.

The right wheels should afford you comfortable interiors, suave exteriors, and a dynamic engine setup to tackle corrugated roads, bush trails, and city streets all the same. Here are our top under-the-radar picks to shop this month, which will do just that.

Stylish and Spirited: The Suzuki Jimny

After a long week, the last thing you want is to get stuck with weekend chores and errands. The Suzuki Jimny will allow you to escape the city efficiently and comfortably. It’s an off-road champion, lightweight enough to use daily but excels on 4x4 terrain.

The range carries four variants, all fitted with a 1.5L engine, in both manual and automated transmission options. The brand boasts an average of 6.3L/100km fuel efficiency, another selling point of this stellar SUV.

Despite its compact size, it still has a lot to offer consumers with features such as its hill hold, descent control, and ALLGRIP PRO. This particular system gives drivers increased support to navigate different environments, allowing you to switch seamlessly between 2WD (Two-Wheel Drive) and 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) driveshafts to manoeuvre and respond accordingly.

The Comfortable Cruiser: The Citroen C5 Aircross

Even though many South Africans plan to take leave in the warmer months, exploring the country during the cooler months can make for an enjoyable time too. The Citroen C5 Aircross will let you travel in style and class.

It’s an upmarket, refined FWD (Forward-Wheel Drive) SUV that will still deliver on power and performance. The range is split into two: the C5 Aircross Feel and the C5 Aircross Shine. Both variants are equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo-charged petrol engine and a 6-speed automated transmission gearbox. It also has an acclaimed average fuel consumption rate of 7.3L/100km on the Shine model.

Besides standard features such as dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming inside mirrors, and a reverse camera, it impresses with cruise control with memory settings. These allow you to drive smoothly and easily set speed limits without hassle with varying terrain.

Handsome and Hardworking: The Haval H6

When it comes to long drives down the coast, you need a car that you can rely on, especially when dealing with ever-changing weather. The Haval H6 will do just that, giving you safety and reliability all in one.

The range currently carries four variants, fitted with a 2.0L petrol engine and a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission) gearbox. Additionally, where Haval changes the SUV game is that it comes with both 4x2 and 4x4 options to ensure you find the right vehicle for your needs.

While this coupe-inspired SUV certainly boasts a good-looking exterior, it offers consumers so much more. The intelligent safety system, for instance, has features such as lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera, depending on the model of your choice.

The most notable of all, though, is the smart collision avoidance system. It was created to maintain a safe distance when activated while staying alert to the surrounding area and any potential obstacles in the car’s path.

Outstanding Opulence: The Opel Crossland

Road trips make for great adventures when done right. And the Opel Crossland, in our opinion, is doing it right. It highlights classic European styling with homage to the German brand but emphasises the elegance and luxury of this SUV without trying too hard.

The Crossland range comes in three variants, all fitted with a 1.2L engine but an FWD drivetrain. The SUV has a respectable 6.5L/100km fuel consumption rate, which makes it ideal for long and short trips.

Moreso, the Crossland excels in quiet luxury. The design of this SUV includes high-gloss accents, two-tone roofs (depending on the model), and chrome finishes, both inside and out. Ergonomically active seats have 16 adjustment options and positionable headrests, in addition to the electronic lumbar and extended thigh support. All of these create an exclusive, premium comfort experience not commonly found in the SUV segment.

Weekend breaks can often be far and few, but when you can get away for a few days, you should. From exploring the city to taking long-winding drives around the quieter parts of Gauteng, downtime is important. And doing so in a reliable car that can go the distance without compromising on space, style, or efficiency can indeed make it a memorable road trip.

Adventure awaits with our range of superb cars for sale in Gauteng. Visit us in-store or online and hit the road today.
