So, you've had your eye on a flashy new car for some time now and are nearly ready to take the leap and purchase one. What if you could get that same car for less than the advertised price? We'd all be happy to save some money whenever possible and when it comes to buying a car, those savings can translate to tens of thousands of Rands, not just a few hundred. If you're certain that you want a new car or are stuck on a particular new model on the market, we suggest looking at buying a demo model instead of forking out for a completely new one, and here's why:
Demo Cars Are Well Looked After
A reputable dealership will ensure that their demo cars are always in pristine condition to give a potential buyer the optimal visual and driving experience. Even though demo cars are not completely untouched like new ones, they are always maintained well and checked through properly before being sold.
Mileage Isn't That High On A Demo
Most dealerships only keep their demo vehicles until they have clocked around 5000km, sometimes even less but never more. When you buy a demo, you can be sure that the mileage is still quite low and whatever wear and tear may have happened during this time is marginal.
Any Factory Defects Won't Fall On You
Sometimes cars make it past the quality testing phase and yet somehow develop unexpected problems early on as it's being used. Few things are as agonisingly frustrating as finally getting the car you've been wanting for so long, only to have it break down on you within the first week. A demo car eliminates that risk vastly. In fact, if a car turns out to have a factory defect, it is most likely to show up during the initial period of time in which the dealer will have had it corrected. This means that any possible issues the car may have had will have already occurred and been taken care of before you take it over from the dealer.
You Score On Off-The-Floor Value Depreciation
As you may know, if you buy a brand new car it will lose a big part of its value not long afterwards. In fact, the moment you get the keys and drive off for the first time, your vehicle will already have depreciated significantly - a brand new car loses around 15 to 30% of its sales price value within the first year of ownership alone, and continues to drop as the years pass. Buying a demo vehicle means that initial value loss is already knocked off, reducing the price you'll pay for it to its current value at that point in time.
You Still Get All The Benefits Of A New Car
When you take over a demo car you also gain the remainder of the service plan and warranty in place for that vehicle, just at a reduced cost. Unlike with used cars, you'll likely still have many years and kilometres left to go before needing to fork out for a car service or parts replacements.
Nobody Else Would Know The Difference
Whether you buy a brand new car or a demo model, the two will be virtually indistinguishable. You'll get all the benefits of having a new car without paying all of the cost for it. Ask any friend or family member when you show them your car and they'll almost certainly think it's brand new, except for the reading on the odometer.
You Are Likely To Get Added Extra Features
Since dealers want to show off the full array of what a potential buyer can have when they buy a car, demo cars are often outfitted with little extras that you would have to pay for if you had to buy the car brand new. These include an upgraded sound system, better seat upholstery material, steering control buttons instead of a standard steering wheel, as well as paint finishes on the bodywork that normally cost more, including metallic and pearlescent colours.

Kia has released details of the EV9, its first three-row electric flagship SUV that brings fresh thinking, design and technology to the sector and spearheads the brands rapid transformation to that of a sustainable mobility solutions provider.
Based on the game-changing Electric Global Modular Platform, the EV9 offers athletic performance backed up by a range in excess of 500km. Ultra-fast 800-volt charging capability enables the battery to be charged up to a range of 239km in approximately 15 minutes.
Reshaping the SUV user experience
Based on Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy, the EV9 re-envisions the all-electric SUV concept with a balance of natural and modern elements and the combination of elements from the natural and material worlds.
Upfront a Digital Tiger Face showcases its unique identity, which is accentuated by the Digital Pattern Lighting Grille and vertical headlamps which gives the EV9 a visionary and futuristic look. Two clusters of small cube lamps adjacent to each headlamp create a sophisticated animated lighting pattern that will signify Kia’s Digital Tiger Face for future EV models. A GT-Line model is differentiated by a black colour palette and a Digital Pattern Lighting Grille that adds an element of dynamism and sophistication to the impressive design.
Boosting efficiency is a drag co-efficient of 0.2 that has been achieved thanks to a 3D sculpted underbody cover, aerodynamic wheels and innovative air curtains integrated into the front bumper.
The EV9 will be available in six and seven seat versions. The first row of seats features relaxation seats that ensure a comfortable resting posture. The second row offers four seating options including a three-seater bench seat, basic-type, relaxation type and swivel-type two-seater independent seats, providing customers with a variety of usage methods to choose from.
Level 3 autonomy
Technological breakthroughs include the Highway Driving Pilot system which enables Level 3 autonomous driving in selected markets. Fifteen sensors, including two lidars enable the car to scan for and detect objects in a full 360-degree field of view, enabling it to react to the road and other users in order to prevent potential collisions. The car will be capable of conditional driving automation where conditions permit, enabling the driver to temporarily take a break from controlling the vehicle.
Staying up to date
The Kia Connect store will give owner sthe option of purchasing digital features and services on demand, giving them the flexibility to choose the features they want and continuously upgrade the capabilities of the EV9 with Over the Air updates. Customers can even specify additional performance for the all-wheel drive EV9 with an optional Boost feature that unlocks an extra 100Nm.
The Kia EV9 transcends all aspects of traditional SUV thinking and represents the pinnacle of Kia’s design and engineering capabilities. The EV9 also spearheads Kia’s transition to a sustainable mobility solutions provider through the numerous recycled and sustainable materials used in its creation.
Varying levels of performance available
The EV9 will be available with a variety of electric powertrain configurations. A 76.1kWh battery is offered exclusively with the rear-wheel-drive standard model while a 99.8kWh battery is fitted to both the RWD long range and all-wheel drive models.
